Frequently asked questions and answers

Q1. What is Adding Up to a Lifetime (AUTAL)?

A. AUTAL is a financial literacy resource aimed at year 9-11 students, providing more than 25 hours of finance engaging and interactive content to help stimulate interest. Features include animated characters and video case studies investigating real life examples.

Q2. How do I access the resource?

A. You can either access the resource live through web, from the "access resource" area of the site or by downloading it. The download version has been provided in a SCORM compatible format in order to allow integration with VLEs.

Q6. How do I stay informed of updates to the resource?

A. Please email your contact details to financialfun@ssatrust.org.uk and we will add you to our contact list. This list will only be used to contact you about the resource and updates relating to it.

Q7. How do I access supporting materials?

A. Visit the teacher support page for all supporting materials.

Q8. If I find an error how should I report it?

A. If you do notice a mistake, do please email us at financialfun@ssatrust.org.uk and we will endeavour to fix it as soon as possible.

Q9. When I run the resource I can't see anything on the screen.

A. Check that you have Flash Player installed. If you don't have it installed, please vist the Adobe website

Q10. When running the resource, I can only see part of the page and need to scroll down or across to see the rest.

A. It is recommended that AUTAL is run on a 1024 x 768 resolution. However, you can run AUTAL at the 800 x 600 resolution, provided that your browser is set to run in full screen mode.

Q11. The resource prevents me from opening any external documents or links.

A. In order to over overcome any security issues that may be restricting access to external documents or web links, please follow the instructions on the Adobe website.

Q12. The resource runs very slowly while accessing it online.

A. Please download the resource since viewing it online requires a good internet connection. If you already have a good internet connection, the speed of the resource may be slower due to the volume of users accessing it online, which is easily overcome by downloading the resource.

Q13. I've downloaded the resource but it appears as .zip file, how do I open the resource?

A. The files have been provided in a compressed "zipped" format to reduce downloading times. These "zipped" files can be then be decompressed using software available free on the following site: www.winzip.com.


Once the winzip software has been installed, you are ready to "unzip" the .zip file. You will need to start by double clicking on the zip file, which will then allow you to save its contents to a suitable location on your computer. The resource will then be ready to use to use.

Q14. I've saved/unzipped the files from the .zip file to my computer, but how do I access/start the resource?

A. Create a shortcut from your desktop (right click on the desktop > new > shortcut) to the "index.html" (which is in the root of the folder unzipped from the ZIP) file. Provide the shortcut with an appropriate name, and when ready, double click the shortcut icon to launch the resource.
